The 2009 Best Employers study is Hewitt’s sixth annual employee engagement review and assesses a company’s ability to deliver against its commitment to being a best employer as well as the influence of those efforts on business results.  The Hewitt study provides insights into how organizations can achieve a real competitive advantage through their people, explores what makes an organization a good place to work and identifies a shortlist of Best Employers.  Key criteria for selection as a best employer included: leadership, diversity, learning and development, and ethics and integrity. A total of 230 organizations and 46,000 employees in India participated in this study, while more than 900 companies and 180,000 employees participated in the broader Asia study.

“BD understands the importance of employee engagement and its impact on morale and performance across the organization,” said Ram Sharma, Managing Director, BD in India.  “To be featured as one of the top 25 best employers in Asia and ranked twelfth among the Best Employers in India through this survey reflects the dedication of BD associates to our Company’s values, and of our management to ensuring that BD is a great place to work.”

Smita Anand, Regional Director, Asia Pacific Consulting at Hewitt, said, “All organizations in the region face similar external factors.  What our study revealed is that Hewitt Best Employers have learned that creating and maintaining an environment that is focused on key human capital elements and making minor adjustments without losing sight of the goal allows them to sustain their strong position and prosper—or be set to prosper when the economy improves.
“Hewitt Best Employers demonstrate remarkable consistency on a day-to-day basis—and when they respond to difficult times.  Best Employers continue to reap the benefits from this course through an increase in productivity and profits over time,” Smita added.

BD in India first participated in the Hewitt Best Employers Survey in 2007, when it ranked in the top 20 list of Best Employers in India at number 18.
BD in India has built and nurtured a values-driven organization with a culture of pride in the Company’s values and purpose, openness and transparency, as well as freedom to express views and stretch beyond boundaries. This has been achieved through  practices that include:
